Welcoming baby is an occasion worth capturing. When Mom contacted me, she told me that her precious doggie was the inspiration for the theme of their new one. That and the fact that this child has to love Orange and be a Tennessee Vols fan! Mom really wanted the BIG sister in the pictures, but she was nervous if she would cooperate.   A few tricks and some treats and our little doggie star stole the show! She was really good and looking at the camera, which is often a problem with dogs and photography

This gorgeous momma really wowed with her jeweled tone dress. I loved that we got some great light when we walked down their street to the lake that they like to walk to on nightly strolls. They were leaning towards a certain name, so we make sure to grab some shots in hopes that was the decision come arrival. I knew I was doing their newborn session so adding a maternity session is a fun choice. I get to know mom and dad and it makes our newborn session, even more, fun since our familiarity is already there with each other. I look forward to sharing Baby A’s newborn session very soon. He was adorable and his new big doggie sister loves loving on her lil’ Vol.

I love being able to go into a client’s home and just grab a snapshot at this overwhelming stage that bringing a newborn home can be. Many people think that this kind of session is a good alternative to coming into my studio for a posed newborn session. Some clients, especially new moms, have not thought about scheduling a newborn session until after the baby is here. I do all my studio-posed sessions within the first 12 days of life and some clients have not gotten around to wrapping their brain around mommyhood until that window has closed. In comes a newborn lifestyle session, an in-home session where I can capture an hour “in your life” session. Whether it is a feeding session in the rocker, hanging on the couch with dad, or settling into the new digs of the nursery, it is a reap snapshot into a true store of the new baby.

I also bring my travel beanbag and try some shots, because why not? But most babies from two weeks to a month have awaken to active awake cycles and their deep sleep is saved for night time. And posing newborns is something that need to be done in a deep sleep. I always try and encourage clients who have missed that newborn posed phase to try this way. As a newborn comes home, all schedules go out the door. I guarantee it will pass quicker than you want it to be, even though you long for solid 4-5 hours of sleep. There will be things you will not remember in your fog like state from that first month. Having an in home lifestyle session allows it to be captured for forever. It will be a session that you treasure the most.

In this session, the H family wanted to capture some newborn photos but were past the first 12 days of life. Their first born son was struggling with reflux so things were not going so smoothly for them at first.  But once the routine was established, she reached out to me.  I loved that I was able to capture his adorable nursery, plus some mom and dad cuddle time.

Little Miss Olivia was adorable.  She is 21 days new. That is a first for me.  Newborn baby photos are usually best taken at no more than 14 days old. She did put up a good fight, in terms of wanting to sleep. By 3 hours in, I was starting to wonder if she should fall asleep. But I held out enough hope and she gave in.  When she finally closed her eyes and seemed settled, I was a flurry of activity with my camera and outfits, headbands, and everything.  Trying very hard not to be a perfectionist with hands, or feet since I was scared of waking her.

I love being able to capture newborn babies as this stage is so fleeting. They grow so very fast in the first few months.  But the squishy-ness that is a newborn, make it so fun to create poses that they remind them of being all secure for those long 10 months.

The neutral tones are becoming something that I love doing.  I love the natural and monotone feel that comes from ivory or blush. I plan on doing more of my newborns in a neutral and classic look and really making it my own style.

Little Miss O was one of my favorites. I think that often, right after editing a newborn photo session. I can’t wait for my next newborn photo shoot.

Christmas Photos at the Jersey Shore

I had never been to Belmar and even though I grew up in New Jersey. Belmar has been made famous by local legends like the Boss who made this special town his favorite playing venue.

It was such a treat to capture this family, who are some of my favorite people on Earth. We headed to Belmar to capture some images for their annual holiday card. It was a lot of fun to see a change of boardwalk scenery since I am so used to the Ocean City boardwalk. It is a very different experience to visit shore towns in the winter. There is still a charming place but just less crowded. We were able to stop first in downtown Belmar and see all the quaint shops. My clients had a friend who has a home on the penthouse of one of the main buildings in the central part of town.  It offers quite the view.  No matter where you are in New Jersey, a view of the mighty Atlantic Ocean always provides a humbling sight. Our next stop was to see the Christmas Bazaar at the Convention Center on the boardwalk. It was filled with vendors and stores that offer last minute shopping and unique gifts. It was a brisk day but a little walk on the boardwalk is always great. Fresh salt air always cures most things no matter the temperature.

I loved being able to visit the boardwalk on the off season. It makes you cherish the summer season so much more.

It is always fun to be able to meet new vendors and try new things. We met up at Willow Creek Winery in Cape May, New Jersey. Gypsea Photo Booth provided the van and we had models dressed in the Retro vintage apparel to channel our inner hippies. I love adding their personal style an hobbies like music into a photo shoot for kids, teens and seniors. They are so free spirited and fun to be around. If you are looking for photos of your child, contact the studio today.

Shooting with other professionals allows you to see a window into their workflow and see how the same subjects can be shot with such different styles. I loved seeing all the other’s images as well.

I can’t wait to meet up again and see what we can do!
